Is ETFE sustainable? Carbon, recyclability and BREEAM
An honest look at embodied carbon, end-of-life and the certification picture.
ETFE's embodied carbon per m² is a fraction of glass — partly because the foil itself is very thin, partly because the structure holding it up is so much lighter.
It's recyclable. Off-cuts from fabrication can be reprocessed, and end-of-life panels can be reprocessed into new fluoropolymer products rather than going to landfill.
For BREEAM and LEED, ETFE can contribute across materials, energy (daylight and thermal performance) and innovation credits. We'll help you evidence it — but be wary of anyone claiming ETFE is automatically 'green'. It's the specification and the whole-life picture that matter.
