Lightweight ETFE domes for data centres
Data centre programmes move faster than conventional construction, and increasingly land on sites where heavy foundations are the expensive part.
A domed or long-span ETFE enclosure gives operators weather cover over modular halls, cooling plant and substations that installs quickly and loads very little onto the ground beneath. On brownfield land, capped landfill and tight urban plots, that difference can decide whether a site works.
Because the envelope is light and mechanically fixed, it can be treated as a demountable asset: removed if the site plan changes, with the foil going back into recycling rather than to landfill.
Glyndon works with Blaq Cat DC on exactly this — lightweight ETFE domes developed for the data-centre sector.
- Fast to erect
- Weather cover in a fraction of a conventional roof programme.
- Minimal ground works
- Very low load on constrained and brownfield sites.
- Demountable
- Removable envelope, recyclable foil.
